Known as the "Hub of the Lakes," Port Carling is located between Lake Muskoka and Lake Rosseau, in the Township of Muskoka Lakes. Muskoka's oldest community was originally an Ojibway settlement with a population of 110 people. Known as the village of "Obajewanung," meaning "gathering place," Port Carling still acts as land where both locals and tourists gather. In addition, many use the locks to pass through from Lake Muskoka to Lake Rosseau, and vice versa.
Above all, the Port Carling Wall is one of the main attractions to the area. In 2005, the 111-by-45 foot photo mosaic was unveiled. This mural illustrates the RMS Sagamo passing through the locks in 1922. However, if you get up close to the wall, you can see that the mural is actually 9028 individual photos of residents throughout time (1860-1960), one of which is of our founder's grandparents. This wall is a symbol of heritage and community.
